Herringbone LVT and Altro safety vinyl with coved skirting

Platter is Benugo's café on the fifth floor of the John Lewis flagship store on Oxford Street, London. Adapt Flooring installed all of the vinyl on the project: the herringbone LVT through the dining areas and the slip-resistant safety vinyl, coved up the walls, in the back-of-house kitchen.

The brief and the building

The project was a refurbishment of the store's café. The dining room runs along the edge of the building behind full-height glazing, with banquettes, loose tables and a central bar, and a terrace beyond the windows.

Herringbone along the windows

The floor is Moduleo Roots Herringbone LVT in Laurel Oak, a pale wood effect. It runs the full length of the window dining room, between the banquettes and the tables, and stops at the tiled floor around the central bar, which was laid by another trade. Where the herringbone meets the tiles, a border plank closes it off, so the edge reads as one clean line rather than a row of cut ends.

A broken slab, built up to meet new tiles

The existing slab was broken, and the tiles around the bar had only just gone down, so in areas we built the floor up by 90mm to meet them and made sure every transition is smooth.

Safety flooring behind the scenes

In the back-of-house kitchen, including the servery inside the counters, we laid about 200m² of Altro Stronghold 30 safety vinyl, heat-welded at the seams and coved up the walls with a capped skirting.

Working for Interior Service

We installed the vinyl for Interior Service, the joinery-led trading name of Briar Construction and the main contractor on Platter. We complete projects with Briar regularly, and on Platter our package was the herringbone LVT through the dining areas, the Altro safety vinyl with coved skirting in the back-of-house kitchen, and the subfloor preparation under both, from grinding and priming to a pumped levelling screed.
